My Challenge Cup weekend began with a tour of Parma International
The Parma warehouse across the street housed retired Parma founder
Ken MacDowell's prized collection of automotive and slot car treasures.
Up front is a former
Bill Elliot NASCAR ride.
A fairly nice sized garage to park the cars in!
Pardon me for drooling...
Some nicely restored and maintained vintage cars
This one is a real beauty!
The warehouse also serves as the Parma test facility - complete with
a custom Ogilvie Hillclimb track.
A high speed Hillclimb, with an added squiggle, to test flat corner
handling as well as speed.
Around 150' of smooth track - worthy of any big race - but just used
for testing.
A drag strip adorns the back wall
The track is surrounded by vintage slot car memorabilia. Here's the
original Parma Raceway lap counter.
An original display case from Parma Raceway - full of vintage slot
cars.
Just a sampling of the collection of 1960's slot cars and kits.
Parma CEO Mike MacDowell shows off a pegboard wall of vintage slot
car parts
The wall of controllers - how many can you recognize?
Here's a wall of Parma cars from over the years
I could have spent all day just reminiscing and trying to identify
some of these chassis! I could ID a bunch of them!
Alan Smith of Scalextric USA tries out an original American Raceways
driver station with steering wheel. Don't forget to drive on the right,
Alan!
"The New Super HO Controller" vintage sales display
I was hoping Mike could bring this to the Challenge Cup! It's an old
"Finger vs. Thumb" testing device!
