The Chico Slot Car
Racing Club
To: Prospective Club Members
From: Todd Radke
Dear Friends and Fellow Slot
Racers:
We want to thank you for
your interest in joining our Club. After almost four months hard work,
it is finally time to start racing and having fun with our toy cars. The
125' MTT and the 135' Hillclimb tracks are now finished with computer race
control programs and monitors in place.
Our two Saturday open houses
were great successes. You may have seen the front page article in the Enterprise
Record. We hope to get other local media to do stories on the Club once
we start our racing programs.
So here's the scoop -
Tuesday nights from 6:00 - 11:30 racing on the MTT road course for fans
of GTP, LeMans and Formula 1 cars. Next is Thursday Night Thunder,
NASCAR on the high banked Hillclimb. We've designed the race program around
a common chassis/motor setup, a simple body change and you have a car that
can be raced both nights. Each driver will be classified by skill level
(novice/advanced/expert). You'll always race against people of similar
ability and experience. If we have enough interest we will add a juniors
program.
The most frequent questions
asked during the open house were: What do I need to buy? and Where can
I buy it? There are two "spec" classes for beginners/novice drivers
Flexi/Plafit -NASCAR (Thursday night) and Flexi/Plafit - GTP (Tuesday night).
Enclosed with this letter is a list of rules, approved parts for these
two classes and where you can buy them. To get started all you need to
do is call Slot Car Warehouse in Concord, CA (925)672-0618, tell
them you are from Chico (they have been alerted as to what you need) and
order Champion chassis kit part number #131, a Plafit Cheetah motor, a
Sonic 9 tooth 48 pitch pinion gear and either the Parma .010 thick - Taurus
(1007B), Monte Carlo(1086B) or Grand Prix (1010B) body plus an interior
and some 1/8" axle washers. The whole thing will come to about $48.00 plus
sales tax and shipping. If you want to race Flexi/Plafit GTP on Tuesday
nights add either a .010 Parma Magnum (70505B), RS8 WSC (70513B) or Outasite
333 (OS 062) for another $5.00. Bodies must be .010 thickness. The GTP
cars are a little easier to drive because they have more aerodynamic down
force. Charter members will be glad to help you to put your car together.
In the near future we will have Saturday "tech" sessions to help you learn
how to build and tune up your cars for maximum performance.
We've scheduled another open
house for Saturday July 22. Our racing program will start Tuesday night
July 25 and every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday thereafter.
Remember whether you want to race or not, one track will always be
open for practice. So come on down, get in a little practice
and hang with the guys. Please see myself or Club treasurer Cheryl Baker
to pay your dues ($60.00 for adults and $30.00 for children under 18).
We really welcome parents and children. Many of the Charter members started
slot racing with their fathers back in the 70's... however Club rules require
that children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent who is also a dues
paying Club member at all times, no exceptions. This is a club for fun
loving but serious slot racers, it is not a child care facility.
After Saturday July 22nd
only dues paying Club members
will be allowed on the tracks.
PS - The National Slot Car
Association has asked us to host a 4 hour Enduro in September. Some
great drivers and cars will be coming to town. It should be very exciting.
