10 cars competed, with #3 and #24 dropping out because they were not official proxy race entries.
The cars were run in two mains, each consisting of 10 two minute heats, run in a round-robin, with each car racing on each of the 4 lanes once per main. Drivers were assigned to one lane, driving each car once. There were two mains, with 4 different drivers in each main.
Here's how they finished:

The "Race After The Race" was canceled due to the lateness of the hour. The day's events took longer than expected to run, but by the end we had developed an efficient routine for running this type of event.
All the cars survived in good condition, thanks to the skill of the official proxy race drivers and some new rubber padding added to the track's walls just in time for this event. There were plenty of hits into the walls but no major collisions, and no trips onto the floor.
Watch for full coverage in the Old Weird Herald, focusing on photos and technical details of all the cars. We should have photos up on the web site within a day or so, and more information shortly after.
Special thanks to Scott Smith, who not only served as an official driver but also brought his digital camera and took all the photos. He also won the Daytona West 500 on his first attempt, earlier in the day, coming back from 6 laps down at the halfway point to beat Craig Rieland by only 1 lap in the 500-lap A main.
Thanks also to my wife, Pat, my daughter, Dana, and her friend, Tina, for putting on a memorable spaghetti feed for all the participants.

The "Race-after-the-Race" was a "fun" race, pitting some of the Proxy Race cars against some of the local "home track" cars. Each of the local drivers present selected and drove one car for this event, driving 2 minutes on each of the 4 lanes, in a 6 heat round-robin main.

A big thanks to all of the participants for building cars and entering in this first Daytona West / Old Weird Herald Proxy Race, and to all of the drivers who participated as well. Thanks also to Randy Chinn, who was the "official scribe" of the CanAm event, posting updates to the "Slots" email Discussion List to keep the participants and fellow enthusiasts involved in the racing action. Also thanks again to Scott Smith for taking such great photos with his digital camera, so that we can share pictures of the cars and event over the internet. It was a lot of fun, and we can hardly wait to plan the next proxy race!
Watch for a full report to follow soon,
