Welcome to The Old Weird Herald Slot Car Talk Page! The purpose of this new commercial classified ads board is for slot car manufacturers, suppliers, raceways, etc. to be able to place commercial ads on a one time basis for promoting specific products, services, and/or events. The high visibility of the OWH "Slot Car Talk" provides a huge target audience at a bargain of a price for placing your ads & announcements!

First off, without trying to cover absolutely every aspect and loophole, I'll attempt to list a few guidelines and rules for posting ads on the OWH "Slot Car Talk" Commercial ads board.

1 ) All rules & guidelines on the OWH Slot Car Talk House Rules apply here as well.

2 ) All ads and announcements must be related to slot cars, or of particular interest to slot car enthusiasts. (this is OWH House Rule #18, recycled here as # 2 'cuz it's pretty important).

3 ) Free Classified ads are for individuals wanting to buy or looking to unload one of a kind items on a not-for-profit basis at or below retail value. A commercial ad is an announcement or advertisement for mass-produced products, services, collectibles, business items or equipment, etc., being sold for profit. Don't get silly on how you define "profit"... you get my drift, OK?

4 ) There may be a fine line at times between what might be considered a "free classified ad" and a "paid commercial ad". If in doubt, it is always safer to lean towards the one that puts money in OWH's pocket. If you err towards the freebie and are wrong, you might get slammed by readers or upset poor ol' "mom" or the OWH moderators. If you err towards the paid ads, at least you support OWH and help in keeping OWH supplied with Tums.

5 ) All ads for products should be offered and available to wholesale distributors and dealers at normal discounts. this can be accomplished as easily as stating "Wholesale and dealer inquiries invited" and must include an email address within the ad. If you forget to ad it, I'll ad it for you. It goes with OWH's general philosophy of supporting the distributor/raceway chain whenever possible.

6 ) All ads MUST contain contact info. This includes company or individual's name, URL and/or email address. Address and phone number are optional. Something should indicate how or where to purchase the products or services, or specific location info to find an event....     Duh.

7, 8, & 9 ) I'm leaving room here, 'cuz I know I'll think of something later, and the next one needs to be last...  ;-)

10 ) All advertising and sponsorship on The Old Weird Herald web site and/or OWH's "Slot Car Talk" bulletin board is subject to my approval. Decisions for accepting advertising may be based on ad content, continuity with OWH's general or specific focus within the hobby of slot car racing, consistent with OWH's general theme and focus, and compatible with other advertising and editorial content. If that sounds a bit vague, then how about this.... All ads are subject to OWH approval, and may be rejected for any old reason, excuse, or mood swing that hits me at the time. You're paying me, remember?

So... are you bored already, or did you just skip over all the drivel above and want to just get your ad placed? If so, and if by doing so, btw, you agree to OWH's terms and policies, then here's what to do:

Step 1 ) Click on the "X-Com PayPal" button to sign up for a PayPal account (if you don't already have one, of course!)

Step 2 ) Come back here and click on the "Buy Now" button for the $9.99 - 200 word ad with graphics.

Step 3 ) Go back to the OWH "Slot Car Talk" Commercial Classified Ad board and post your ad. Please preview it for errors, and ad any notes or comments at the bottom that you want me to read for format notes, etc. Make sure you are very clear about what part is ad content and what part is instructions or questions to me!!!  You're ad won't appear yet. This board is "moderated" and will not appear publicly until I have received PayPal notice of payment, and read, edited, and approved the ad. This should not take very long, since I basically have no life. ;-)

The ads will remain on this board, in chronological order as posted, with the new ads appearing on top. Ads may be edited if desired, but will not be "bumped" to the top after editing.

Click on this button to sign up for a spiffy "PayPal" account. Not only is it free, but by using this handy-dandy button to sign up, you get $5 credit and OWH also gets $5 credit for the referral! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

Use this button to prepay for your $9.99 Commercial Classified Ad. You get up to 200 words to hock your goods or make your speel, and can include 3 graphics - including 1 logo, 1 product or other photo, and 1 button or graphic link. You can use HTML, and don't worry, HTML commands don't count as words! If you aren't a web geek and would like your ad formatted with bold type & italics, or listed items posted nice & neat, just ask nice & OWH will take care of the geeky HTML stuff for you. If you want any fancy graphics made for you, for a bit of extra $$$, OWH Jr. can be persuaded to help you out. Let us know what you want and we'll come up with a pretty decent price.

That's it! Pretty simple, huh?

OWH also offers a "Pitstop" new products page. It gets THOUSANDS of hits per month from slot racers hungry for info about new stuff for their toy car addiction. The page continues to get hits (even though so far it is rarely updated) because people keep hoping to see new stuff. Free plugs are offered to suppliers who send me press releases, catalogs, pictures, samples, bribes, etc... but as you can see, so far, I rarely hear from suppliers. I have a problem figuring this one out - why they wouldn't be filling my mailbox for this free publicity. ;-/

Advertising on OWH has got to be the best bargain around, and earns my added product "pimping" efforts as well. OWH sponsors help support this forum and all the other cool stuff that OWH provides, and enables me to pay my internet & software bills, and occasionally eat, while chained to my PC pumping out material and maintaining this web site.
