    Drawing held May 13th, 2000!

The tickets were in, and all the entrants were wondering... who would be the lucky winner of the cool new Ruddock Deluxe DR-30 Controller in The Old Weird Herald's 2nd Raffle!
South Hill Slots' 95' American Black Track and the gang To ensure that all entries had been received, as well as to hold the actual drawing at a local slot car race (and in front of plenty of witnesses!), I decided to have the big winning Raffle ticket drawing at the PNW IMCA race on Saturday 5/13/00 at South Hill Slots in Puyallup, WA.

SHS is the home twice a month for the PNW IMCA races, with the 4 "Flexi" classes on the 2nd Sat., and the 4 "Speed Crazed Moron" classes on the 4th Sat. each month.

South Hill Slots will also be the host of the upcoming 2000 Slugfest on July 29 & 30. This year's Slugfest will be run on the brand new custom routed "Canadian White" track that will be installed sometime next month!

In the tradition of The Old Weird Herald (and it's overly anal retentive publisher) every effort was made once again to ensure that the simple task of drawing a winning ticket was elevated into a major big deal.

The entries were painstakingly logged into a data base, with multiple entries filled in, including bonus tickets for those who included the business card of their local raceway. They were then sequentially serialized beginning with the first ticket number on the roll of tickets. No names or markings were on the tickets, and the "master list" remained hidden until after the winning ticket was drawn and announced. Kind of a glorified way of saying I used my PC to make a stupid, list, huh.

I spared no expense for this illustrious event, and managed to still have laying around the previously scrounged up Costco-size Mayonnaise jug from Raffle 1 to once again contain the tickets. Those readers with an acute attention to detail, photographic memory, or who have even less important things to worry about then I do, may have perhaps noticed that the jug this time has a scosh more tickets in it then last time; making the notion of the OWH Raffle becoming a fairly regular feature a distinct possibility.

The illustrious OWH Raffle Jug - hold the Mayo
Jay Mac thoroughly stirs up the tickets... Being the only two present who had not entered the OWH Raffle, Jay "Mac" McClelland and Mark "Motor Man" Morris were asked to assist and observe in the painstakingly planned drawing of the lucky winning ticket. Jay thoroughly mixed the tickets while Mark at this point had already completely lost interest.

Jay Mac dug in deep to extract the lucky winning ticket.

With the room full of PNW IMCA racers looking on, and in spite of numerous offers of bribes, threats, and other implications of persuasion, favoritism, or other hanky-panky; every step was taken to ensure that this raffle was conducted totally fair and square, even if it did look a bit hokey.

You could cut the tension in the air with a dull X-Acto knife as Jay Mac pulls out the winning ticket - here it is... (drum roll, please)...

    number 7711096.

    The winning ticket!!!

Here's the winning ticket - now... who's the lucky winner???
A quick search of the database printout reveals...

The winner is Todd Radke! Otherwise known to OWH "Slot Car Talk" regular readers as "Radical Racing"!

"Radical" must have really wanted this controller, as he assured himself quite favorable odds by purchasing a whopping 40 tickets! The "Stuffing the Jug" award for the most tickets ordered, however, this time goes to OWH Slot Car Talk regular Dan P.  from Nevada, with Todd coming in second. (THANKS GUYS!!!)

Todd Radke is now the lucky owner of a custom built, Deluxe Ruddock DR-30 Transistor Controller!!!  This controller is a special Deluxe model made especially for the OWH Raffle. Dan threw in a whole bundle of cool extra features for this one, (all of which are available as extra options by request on controllers Dan builds for regular retail sales).

Todd races in the NorCal area, and he recently posted on OWH about setting up a new slot car club in a 1600 sq. ft. building in Chico, Calif with 2 commercial tracks!!! Todd's home track was featured a while back in Scale Auto Racing News, but was disassembled when he moved. He posted recently that it will soon be set up in his new 1200 sq. ft. shop he just put up behind the new house!

Sounds like there's going to be some cool new slot car tracks coming soon to Chico!

Sometimes I feel like I know practically every regular OWH "Slot Car Talk" personally, and it's a lot of fun receiving all the entry forms, business cards of raceways, and often friendly notes with the entries from OWH readers all over. It's great to know that the winner is a frequent OWH reader who will be using his new DR-30 on some cool tracks in their new homes in Chico California!

I want to extend my sincere thanks to Dan Ruddock of DR Racing Products, manufacturer of the Ruddock Deluxe DR-30 and DR-40 Controllers, for providing the cool prize for OWH Raffle 2!

I also want to thank all of the way cool OWH readers who took the time to send in their hard-earned cash to enter the OWH Raffle 2!!! I wish you all could have won, but to me you're all winners! Your entries have helped to support OWH and to provide an online meeting place where us "grown-ups who play with toy cars" from all over the world can hang out and share our interest in this weird hobby/sport of racing slot cars!

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make this event happen!

This was a lot of work, but a ton of fun, so look for yet another OWH Raffle to happen soon!  :-)
